The Maple Syrup diet got more popular when the pop star Beyonce started using it. According to her, she manages to slim down for only 2 weeks for her movie Dreamgirl by drinking detox drinks made from syrup, water, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper.
This diet is also known as the Lemon Detox and the results are losing weight, cleaning the toxins from your body, better immunity and concentration, more energy, and stronger and shinier skin, hair and nails.
This drink consists of 2 tablespoons of the Natural Tree Syrup mixed with 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, little cayenne pepper or ginger and half a pint of hot or cold water.
The consummation is not limited, however, it is recommended to drink 6-9 glasses per day.
You can choose from 4 plans:
- The Full Detox – this means that you only have to consume the detox drink for 10 days, and nothing else. However, the beginners should follow it only 5–7 days.
- Relaxed Version – this means that you can have breakfast, dinner or both of them combined with 2–3 glasses of the detox drink. However, you should not consume processed foods, sweets, fried food, white bread, red meat, dairy products, coffee, and alcohol.
- The Once a Week version – one day in the week, you do not consume food and have the detox drink.
- The Master Plan – this is an advanced plan with twice-yearly multi-day detox combined with detoxing once a week.
However, this diet may be harmful because you only drink sweet water for many days, you will lose weight for sure, but you also have a strict limit on the calories.
One tablespoon of the Natural Tree Syrup has 26 calories, so by consuming 6 drink per day, you will intake 312 calories only.
The effects of crash diet
Because this is a low-calorie diet you will feel hungry and you will not have enough energy for the whole day. Your sugar levels will be high so usually, the pounds will come back as soon as you stop with it.
The other concerning thing is that this drink does not include any kind of vitamins and minerals, protein or fibers that are usually known for keeping us fit and healthy.
If you are on this diet for a longer period of time you may also face with deficiency of nutrients, calcium, iron, vitamin C and zinc. It is also dangerous for the teeth because of the lemon juice and sugar included in the drink.
However, nothing from this prevents people from following it, and according to the statistics the company that distributes the syrup is now selling from 500 to year to 2.000 in a month.
So this is definitely a crash diet! You should eat healthy food and you will lower your pounds more slowly but in a healthy way.
